Dream big and pursue that dream

06-01-2016, by Mieke

When I was a little girl there were 2 options for my future: either become a flamenco dancer or being the world champion in ice dancing. I did not aim low and I certainly didn't doubt for a second I could achieve these goals. In fact, after my first ice skating lessons, I practically begged my mum to ask the teacher to place me in the advanced class. I thought I was already there..

Perhaps it's a good thing I lost some of that misplaced overconfidence as I got older, but for me this resulted in dreaming just as big as a grown up, but never really pushing to get there, being afraid I might fail.

Example:

  • Being in high school I joined every activity, especially the once where you got to be on a podium; singing, dancing, acting. After I graduated, I was seriously in doubt whether I should go to college or pursue a more creative career and try out for acting school. Looking back, perhaps my fear of rejection made me go to college instead of the try-outs. I figured it was better to keep saying 'I wanted to go to acting school' instead of 'I got rejected for acting school'. I didn't realize I was setting myself up for failure by not even trying.

Perhaps I am being too hard on myself. There are many many things I did go for and achieve and perhaps I was not ready to really chase that dream at the time, or maybe I didn't want it enough? I don't know, but I always kept having the feeling that there must be something else out there for me and it took me a while to realize that a career at a big company didn't really suit me so well...

So thats it, my blog! Starting it seemed like a big Dream, but really Doing it... That's scary! What if it fails?

Only 2,5 months ago my blog went online and in this short period I've already learned a lot and many people gave me such great advise (keep doing that guys, I really appreciate it! Including the spelling errors in my English hihi). Having moved to Stockholm gives me so much new inspiration for my blog, which is great! Nevertheless, without my family and closest friends around, it's sometimes hard to keep telling myself: I'm on the right track. But then again: when I receive a reaction from someone having made one of my easy recipes or having done an exercise, it absolutely makes my day! Which makes me realize:

This dream I'm chasing is the right one!

A new year makes for a great moment to reflect and set goals for the year to come. I'm looking forward to chase my dream even more:

Making it easy for women allover the world to feel good about themselves

Some of my goals for this year:

  • Get to know you! Get inspired by you!
Let me know what you think of my blogs or videos. What would you love to see more? I'm open for suggestions, questions and I'd love to get to know you more!
  • Learn!
I just passed the theoretic exam for my fitness studies, yes! The 30th of January the last step, the practical exam, will follow, so fingers crossed. This year I want to get in touch with many professionals, so I can keep providing you with the most up-to-date inspiration about sports, food, beauty and fashion!
  • Share!
Discovering and sharing my favorite places. Next to my regular items about sports, food, beauty and fashion, I want to share my favorite spots; not only in Stockholm, but everywhere I go! And of course: share me yours as well :)
  • Show you more of me, myself and I
My life in Stockholm, as a blogger, YouTuber, my travels, my doubts and happy times. The good, the ugly and the bad. I thought this personal peace of writing would be a good start :) Next to my regular videos, I would like to post more vlog-style-videos, so you'll be able to get to know me more!
  • Learn Swedish
This has nothing to do with my blog, but everything with integration into the Swedish society. Everybody speaks English fluently, but wouldn't it be nice to just order a coffee in Swedish? Jahaa, en kaffe, tack!

So, lots of dream chasing to be done for 2016. I'd better get to work :)

What about you? What's your dream? And are you living it or still dreaming? Let me know! I'd love to hear from you!

Lots of love, Mieke
