Barchel

07-11-2017, by Mieke

Last weekend I had a getaway with friends in Antwerp. These weekends mostly contain the following ingredients: great talks, good food, nice drinks, some shopping and a tiny bit of sleep. We don’t usually see a whole lot of the city we visit πŸ™ˆ but we choose the places where we eat very carefully (hey, we have to prioritise, right 😜).

One of the brunch hotspots we discovered, was Barchel, close to Antwerp Central Station. Going there at prime time (around 1pm) is not the smartest idea, because this place is packed! If you come with two persons, it’s quite easy to find a spot. However, there are not many big tables, so if you’re there as a group, prepare yourself for some waiting.

The place is absolutely beautiful: high ceilings, old elements, like the detailed ceiling and the old fireplaces, combined with lots of white and a gorgeous wooden floor. The huge glass doors leading to the terrace make me very curious about this place in summer time, so I’ll be back.

When finally seated, Barchel does not disappoint! On the menu you’ll find lots of healthy and sinner - yet always original - choices and the coffee comes with a Speculoos cookie, which is always a good thing πŸ˜‰

I ordered a fresh juice and ‘the flat bread avocado’, with pomegranate, feta cheese and poached eggs; absolutely delicious! Of course, we couldn’t leave without a brunch desert 😏 so we shared a huge piece of carrot cake (hi vitamins πŸ₯•πŸ˜œ).

We spent quite a lot of time at Barchel, but it seemed like minutes. Time flies in the company of amazing friends and great food ☺️

See you soon!

😘 Mieke
